Swelling under the eyes make you unattractive, sleepy and aged. Baggy skin around the eyes is commonly due to water retention, stress and tiredness. There are easy home solutions to get rid of bag under eyes.

What Causes Bag Under Eyes

A few common causes that lead to the bag under eyes are:

  • Lack of exercise
  • Sinusitis
  • Lack of sleep
  • Crying a lot
  • Dermatitis
  • Excessive intake of salty food.

Some people experience puffy eyes in the morning. The reason behind it is that while sleeping, we do not blink our eyes, which causes fluid retention under the eyes. However, puffiness under the eyes goes away when you start blinking after opening eyes.

Home Remedies for Bags under Eyes

1. Coconut Oil – Lauric acid present in coconut oil makes it anti-inflammatory and provides essential nutrients to the skin. Be regular with the application of coconut oil to eliminate bag around the eye.

What to do

Clean your fingers and massage around your eyes with coconut oil for a few minutes every night before sleeping.

Note:- Always, use extra virgin coconut oil for this purpose.

2. A Cold Spoon – Cold spoon is used to relax the blood vessel so that the swelling under the eyes reduces.

What to do

Place a spoon in the refrigerator for an hour. Place the cold teaspoon on your closed eyelids with the curved side of the spoon facing downwards. Hold the spoon in this position for about 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat this 2 to 3 times a day for the desired result.

3. Baking Soda – Baking soda is known to promote blood circulation and effectively reduces eye bags. In addition, being a natural exfoliate, it gives you glowing skin.

What to do

To a cup of lukewarm water, add a teaspoon baking soda. Mix well and apply the solution with the help of a cotton pad under your eyes. Leave it for 10 to 15 minute and then rinse it off with cold water. Repeat this process two times a day.

4. Cucumber to Get Rid of Bag under the Eyes – Cucumber has a cooling effect and reduces irritation and swelling. Cucumber not only treats puffy eyes but also helps to get rid of wrinkles and dark circles around the eyes.

What to do

Slice cucumber and place it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. Place chilled cucumber slices over your closed eyelids. Discard it after 15 minutes. Repeat this process 3 to 4 times a day.

5. Green Tea Bags – Green tea is rich in antioxidants. Not only it reduces the swelling and redness but also nourishes the skin surrounding eyes. Tannin present in green tea also alleviates inflammation.

Note:- You can also use a regular teabag.

What to do

Keep a green tea bag in steaming water for 2-5 minutes and then place the tea bags in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes. Place cold tea bags over your closed eyelids and leave it for 15 minutes. Repeat this three times a day.

6. Aloe vera – Being rich in antioxidants and Vitamins aloe vera has been used since ages to treat skin issues and puffiness around the eyes. It also slows ageing and tones the skin.

What to do

Extract the gel of aloe vera and apply it under your eyes. Leave it for 10 minutes to dry and then rinse it off with cool water.

7. Coffee Ground beans and Black Pepper– Coffee contains caffeine which is anti-inflammatory and reduces puffiness and swelling. When you add black pepper powder, it enhances blood circulation making the skin cell healthier.

What to do

Add a pinch of black pepper to a half teaspoon coffee ground beans. Add coconut oil to make a paste and apply the mixture under your eyes. Be careful and avoid direct contact with your eyes. Repeat this a few times in a week to get rid of bag under eyes.

8. Potato to Get Rid of Puffy Eyes – Potato eases swelling and fluid retention under the eyes.

What to do

Slice a potato and refrigerate it. Place chilled potato slice on your closed eyelids and leave it for 15 minutes. This is followed by rinsing your eyes. Repeat this three times in a day.

9. Saline water –  Saline water is well known to reduce inflammation.

What to do

Add a half teaspoon salt to a cup of warm water. Soak clean cotton eye pads in saline water. Wring out excess of water and place them over your closed eyelids for 15 to 20 minutes. Repeat this every night before you sleep.

One of the cause for puffy eyes is the deficiency of Vitamin K. Include foods rich in vitamin A such as green leafy vegetable, carrot, sprouts, strawberries and liver in your diet. Make sure to limit salt intake and stay away from food that contains salt in high concentration.
