How to Get Rid of Oily Skin

Shining with extra sebum on your face is so unwanted. Oily skin leads to breakouts and screws off your makeup. It gives you a greasy effect and increases concern about your appearance.

What Causes Oily Skin

Oily skin is a very common affecting both the gender and gets worse during adolescence. Our skin contains glands known as sebaceous glands around the hair follicle. The cells of these glands disintegrate, multiply, and release an oily substance known as sebum into the hair follicles. Sebum is required for the skin to keep the skin healthy, hydrated and protected. Many factors responsible for excessive oil secretions include:

  • Food diet
  • Hormonal changes
  • Stress, 
  • Heredity
  • Poor skin products 
  • Humid climate 
  • Not cleaning your skin properly.

Home Remedies for Oily Skin

  1. Lemon – Lemon being rich in citric acid help the pores to shrink and controls the production of sebum. Besides, it is antimicrobial and prevents the growth of acne-causing bacteria.

What to do

To two teaspoons of water mix two teaspoons lemon juice. If your skin is sensitive, also add a teaspoon of glycerine. Mix well and with the help of a cotton ball apply this mixture to your face. After 20 to 30 minutes, rinse it off. Repeat this at least one to two times a week.

2. Aloe vera – Aloe vera has moisturizing, antimicrobial astringent properties. It tones the skin, reduces the size of pores and thus controls the secretion of oil.

What to do

Extract fresh aloe vera gel and apply it all over your face. Leave it for about 20 to 30 minutes and then rinse it off. Repeat this once every day.

3. Green Tea Bag – The presence of polyphenols in green tea effectively reduces the production of sebum. It is a natural antioxidant and is very beneficial in treating acne.

What to do

Take a couple of green tea bags. Steep them for a minute or two in steaming water. Keep the tea bags in the refrigerator for a few minutes. Now apply the cold tea bags all over your face. After 20 to 30 minutes, rinse it off.

4. Jojoba oil – Jojoba oil is almost similar to sebum and tricks the skin to produce less oil. As the production of sebum decreases, it prevents acne breakout.

What to do

Wash your hands. With the help of your fingertips, apply a few drops of jojoba oil to your face. Massage for a minute and then leave it for about half an hour. This is followed by rinsing off your face with water.

5. Honey – Honey is a natural emollient. It reduces sebum secretion and hydrates the skin. Being antibacterial, it prevents the breakout of acne.

What to do

Wash your hands. With your fingertips, apply a few drops of honey to your face and massage. Leave it for half an hour and rinse it off. Repeat this at least once in a day.

6. Oatmeal – Oatmeal is a powerful ultraviolet absorber and protects your skin from the sun. It also acts as a cleanser, moisturizer and anti-inflammatory agent. It prevents the excessive production of sebum, reduces redness, irritation and prevent acne.

What to do

To 2 tbsp. ground oatmeal add a sufficient amount of water to make a thick paste. Apply the paste all over your face. After half an hour, rinse it off with plain water.

7. Tomatoes – Tomato is rich in antioxidants and vitamins that are good for the skin. Enzymes present in tomato removes the dead skin cells. Antioxidants and vitamins prevent acne and reduce inflammation.

What to do

Take a slice of clean tomato. Rub it on your face gently and then rinse it off. Repeat this at least once in a day. You can also make tomato mask. For this mash a half tomato. Add a teaspoon of oats to it. Mix it well and apply the face mask. After 20 minutes, wash t off and moisturize.

8. Egg whites– Egg whites tighten the pores and control the production of sebum.

What to do

Taken an egg and separate yolk from the egg white. Whisk egg white and apply to your face and neck with the help of a cotton ball. After 20 minutes, wash it off with clean water. Repeat this at least two times in a week.
